Formatt-Hitech filters for Black & White Photography produce a range of effects including control of contrast, tonal correction and enhanced skin tones. Originally designed for use with black and white film, they are also a great tool for general color imaging. DescriptionBlack & White filters are color filters specifically designed for use with panchromatic Black & White film (which is nearly all B&W film). Black & White filters are an essential tool for tone-shaping on monochrome B&W digital cameras such as the Leica M Monochrome or the RED Epic M Monochrome. Using B&W film or Monochrome digital sensors, the only way to make large tonal changes to your image. It can’t be done in post processing. Yellow #8: Corrects for panchromatic film to create a more natural rendering of the scene. Enhances clouds, lowers the value of blue sky, and reduces haze. A yellow filter darkens blue, and reproduces green, yellow, orange and red in lighter shades. This gives more differentiation between different colors of foliage and flesh tones have a more natural look. 100x100mm (4x4") Resin Black and White 8 Yellow![]() Yellow-Green #11: Reduces blue and red values darkening the sky, while also enhancing the foliage and vegetation. ![]() Orange #16: Darkens the sky a moderate amount, while not being as overtly dramatic as a Red filter. Using an Orange filter creates bold contrast between the sky and clouds. Also, Orange filters will change the tone of most flowers significantly compared to their surrounds. Orange filters penetrate haze and fog. ![]() Orange #21: Same effect as Orange #16, only more pronounced. ![]() Red #25: A red filter offers the most bold and dramatic effect of any Black & White filter. Blue skies are rendered as black when using the Red #25 filter. This creates a the look of a sky filled with an impending thunderstorm. Red filters also have significant abilities to penetrate haze and fog. When photographing flowers, the red filter will have dramatic effects on tonality, as red roses will appear completely white. The use of a red filter is not subtle, but it creates a dramatic - even surrealistic - image. ![]() Light Blue #38: Light blue filters lighten blues such as the sky while darkening yellow, orange and red. It also heightens the effect of haze and fog on an image.
