The premium quality Nikon Full-frame Z range has a new flagship model, the exciting Z9. This is an advancement of the wonderful technologies that Nikon has previously included in this popular Mirrorless system, the Z9 is your best chance to produce exceptional still and video quality, in any circumstance.
This camera features a stacked FX-format image sensor and a brand new advanced processing engine. As well as detailed, low noise images, the Z9 can record 8K resolution videos.
- 45.7MP FX-Format Stacked CMOS Sensor
- EXPEED 7 Image Processor
- 8K30p and 4K120p Video, 10-Bit Internal
- Dual Card Slots
- Up to 20 fps Raw, 30 fps JPEG Shooting
- 4K/60p ProRes RAW
If you've previously shown interest in the portable yet powerful Nikon Z Mirrorless range, this new release is sure to demand your attention. Known as the Nikon Z9, this model is quite comfortably the flagship of this high-achieving Mirrorless system. The Z9 features a brand-new stacked FX-format image sensor, which pairs with a fresh image processor, both of which band together to deliver astonishing photo and video quality. Video recording is available in stunning 8K resolution, as well as 4K120p for those wanting to produce slow-motion results.
The Nikon Z9 is the best Mirrorless camera for those that demand professional quality results and a professional workflow that they can use to maximise their full potential as image-makers. As well as the high-resolution video recording abilities, this camera features numerous advanced video specifications and features, so it must be considered by serious cinematographers.
The Nikon Z9 not only includes a tilting LCD screen, it features a Nikon's first 4-axis vertical and horizontal, touch-sensitive tilting monitor, which also happens to be generous in size. This monitor assures comfortable and full-featured shooting for photos and videos, while of course, classic eye-level monitoring is also supported, thanks to the Z9's advanced EVF - this feature is notable for its updated brightness and reduced lag.
The Z9 does not include a mechanical shutter, which allows users to harness top speeds as high as 1/32000th of a second, in complete silence. This is of obvious benefit to wildlife photographers who often need to be fast but discrete. No shutter vibration or shutter wear are two other benefits of this lack of mechanical shutter in the camera's design.
The Z9, in fact, features a full-blown silent mode, which eliminates all menu sounds and lens drive noises when enabled - this is a stealth mode for your camera.
The Nikon Z9 is well suited to shooting in tricky lighting conditions. We are not just talking about the excellent low-light performance and expanded ISO range, but also the illuminated icons, which make it quick and easy to locate ket settings. The EXPEED 7 Processor of this camera drastically improves performance speed, from still image capture, to Live View rendering and more. The Z9 also notable features dual memory card slots, which are compatible with CFexpress Type B – this allows the lightning-fast record times and low-lag performances, which is crucial when working with such high-resolution files, out in the field.
The Nikon Z9, with its integrated grip for all-around comfortable shooting, is a gift for all professional photographers, including those working on location. The rugged, workhorse-like camera body is suited to all manner of extreme weather conditions, including temperatures as low as -10°C. As long as you are able to keep shooting through unforeseen weather changes, the Z9 will keep performing, thanks to its dust and drip-resistant performance. For added protection, Z9 features a handy new sensor shield - this allows you to change lenses as necessary, when out in the field, by providing protection for your image sensor, from dust, fingerprints etc.
New Key Features for Z 9 Firmware Version 2.0:
- N-RAW Video Recording up to 8.3K/60p and 4.1K/120p.
- 4K/60p ProRes RAW
- Pre-Release Capture
- New Custom Wide Area AF with 20 selectable options in stills, 12 selectable options in video.EVF 120fps Refresh Rate Mode
RAW Video: Evolution of video features such as RAW video internal recording in 12-bit 8.3K/60p
The Z 9 is now capable of recording RAW video in two different 12-bit RAW video formats — N-RAW and ProRes RAW HQ3. The new format, Nikon's proprietary N-RAW, offers recording with a file size approximately half that of ProRes RAW HQ, providing longer recording time. It supports up to 8.3K/60p and 4.1K/120p when shooting in the FX-based video format. Up to 4.1K/60p can be supported in the FX-based video format with ProRes RAW HQ. A Full-HD mp4 proxy file suitable for transfer and editing is generated at the same time as RAW video file generation in either format. Record a video on a compact system without an external recording device attached and achieve full-scale editing by taking advantage of rich 12-bit tonal gradation utilising video editing software4. Other new features include a variety of useful video functions, such as recording in high-resolution 4K UHD/60p oversampled from 8K.
Pre-Release Capture:
The version update introduces the Pre-Release Capture for the first time in a full-frame mirrorless camera. This new feature prevents photographers from missing decisive moments by recording for up to a second before the shutter-release button is pressed all the way down during High-Speed Frame Capture+. For instance, users can capture the moment when a baseball bat hits a ball even when pressing the button all the way down after seeing the batter hit the ball while half pressing the button.
New AF modes: Improved AF performance, including Custom Wide-Area AF with 20 options
The updated firmware adds Custom Wide-Area AF, which is similar to the Custom Group-Area AF that is highly evaluated with the D6. The pattern of AF area arrangement is selectable from 20 options for stills and 12 for videos, realizing the capture of main subjects in a wide range of scenes. Since it also supports subject detection, you can nail the decisive moment with perfect focus on an athlete behind obstacles in hurdling, for example, by setting the AF area to the upper half of the frame. Also, through reassessment of the algorithm, AF stability, tracking performance, and subject detection in low-light situations have been enhanced.
